Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

Soul Materials is an independent editorial site about sustainable materials. This page explains what we do with your personal data. In short: we collect the email address you give us to subscribe to our newsletter, and we use it only to send you that newsletter. If you accept, we also use Google Analytics to see which pages are read. Google Analytics runs only after you accept, and you can change your choice at any time.

Who we are

Soul Materials is responsible for your data. You can contact us at info@soulmaterials.com for anything related to this policy.

What we collect

Your email address, when you type it into one of our subscription forms. We do not ask for anything else, and we do not create user accounts.

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics (GA4) collects information about your visit: the pages you view, the time of your visit, your approximate location (country or region), your browser and device type, and the page that referred you. Google Analytics also sets cookies on your browser (described below). We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not link it to your email address.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

We use your email address to send you information about new materials, technical data and articles from Soul Materials. We do this because you asked for it by subscribing, which is your consent (for people in the EU, UK and Switzerland, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw your consent at any time.

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read, so we can make the site more useful. It runs only if you click "Accept" on our cookie banner. That consent is our legal basis (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, and consent for cookies under the EU and UK ePrivacy rules). If you click "Reject", Google Analytics does not load and sets no cookies.

Who handles your data

We use Kit (Kit, Inc., formerly ConvertKit) to collect subscriptions and send emails. Kit acts as a processor for us: it handles your email address on our behalf. Kit is based in the United States and states in its privacy policy that data is stored on servers in the United States and other countries, and that it relies on contractual clauses and on the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks and the UK Extension for international transfers. Our subscription form loads a script from Kit's servers, so Kit receives technical information such as your IP address when the form is shown or used.

We do not sell your email address, and we do not share it with anyone else for their own use.

For Google Analytics, Google LLC (United States; Google Ireland Limited for users in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland) provides the service and processes the data on our behalf. Google processes the data on servers in the United States and other countries, and describes its transfer mechanisms in its privacy policy. Google may use the data for its own purposes as described there.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, or you can write to us.

Google Analytics keeps event data for 2 months, after which it is deleted automatically. Cookies set by Google Analytics expire after 2 years at most.

Cookies and your choice

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept Google Analytics. Accept and Reject have equal weight. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage (not a cookie) so we do not ask again on every page. You can change it at any time with the Cookie Settings link in the footer of every page.

If you accept, Google Analytics sets these cookies: _ga (distinguishes visitors) and _ga_G-87FTP1HC0G (keeps the session state). They are analytics cookies, not advertising cookies. We do not use advertising, remarketing or cross-site tracking.

Other third parties on this site

Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts and, on some pages, images from other hosts. When your browser requests these files, those providers receive your IP address, as any web server does. Apart from Google Analytics (described above, and only if you accept), we do not run analytics or advertising trackers on this site, and this site does not set cookies of its own. Our pages are delivered through Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses and connection data to deliver and protect the site. Our subscription form is provided by Kit, and its script loads a technical security cookie (__cf_bm, set by Cloudflare for kit.com, which lasts about 30 minutes) used to detect bots; it is not used for advertising or tracking. Some articles link to other websites, including suppliers; we are not responsible for their privacy practices.

Your rights if you are in the EU, UK or Switzerland

You have the right to:

Your rights if you are in the United States

Depending on your state (for example California), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. To make a request, email info@soulmaterials.com.

Children

Soul Materials is written for professionals and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you think a child has subscribed, write to us and we will delete the address.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
